Winged Bull History

The Assyrian Athletic Club of Toronto is a volunteer, not for profit athletic organization aimed to provide and facilitate the opportunity for the youth of our community to enhance and develop their skills and talents in the sports field, and in particular the game of Soccer. Our club teams are members in the Toronto Soccer Association (TSA) and The Ontario Soccer Association (OSA).

The Winged Bull Soccer Team of Toronto was established in 1981 by the efforts and dedicated work of many people and was sponsored by The Assyrian Society of Canada.

Under the leadership of one of the greatest Assyrian Soccer Stars, Mr. Isaac Y. Isaac, the team had lots of success from the beginning especially in gathering the few hundreds of Assyrian people in Toronto that were scattered across the city.

The Team made its first trip outside Canada in 1983 when they visited the city of Chicago and put on a show against the Chicago Powerhouse, The Chicago Winged Bull, that was to be remembered by all participants and spectators and earned the team it's special and high reputation ever since, even as they lost 6 - 5.

After The Assyrian Society Of Canada stopped its sponsorship due to financial commitments toward building the Assyrian Centre in Toronto, the team was dismantled and gave way for several teams to be established.

When the Assyrian Athletic Club of Toronto was finally established in 1997, we found no better opportunity than this to bring back the name and build on its great history and reputation.

The club is now going in the direction of the best asset that our community posses, the youth. All effort are geared toward developing the youth in the athletic field to be the back bone of our society to contribute to our second homeland Canada and
hopefully one day in our first homeland, Bet-Nahrin.
